The process of buying a piece of custom made furniture that is specifically designed to fit your needs and preferences can be very exciting. A better understanding of this process will help you to achieve exactly what you imagine in your new piece with the least amount of effort.
The following section will provide you with a basic set of guidelines for what to expect from your initial visit with us through the completion and delivery of your finished piece. If you have any questions after reading this, just e-mail us or call. We look forward to speaking with you.
Consultation and Production for your Custom Wood Furniture:
An initial consultation, in your home or at our office, is usually the first step. At this time, the general design and function of a piece may be discussed. It is a good idea to collect a folder of designs you like. A picture is worth a thousand words. Tear out any magazine pages that catch your eye, whether it is a color, a style, a table leg, a type of wood, etc. These photos will help us better understand what appeals to you.
Once the design concept is agreed upon a conceptual drawing may be necessary. When the conceptual design is approved, we will present a price and a contract document.
The cost of having an object made by hand is based largely on the amount of labor hours it takes to make it. The material cost of a piece of furniture is seldom more than 10%, even when exotic woods and inlays are utilized. The remaining cost is attributable to labor.
The first stage of production begins with shop drawings and sample preparation. When the shop drawings and samples receive your signed approval, we can enter the project into production.
The cabinetmaking phase involves a tremendous amount of hand work. The finishing process is also very time-consuming, sometimes involving as much work as the entire cabinetmaking process. During assembly, we may ask you to visit as a means to ensure all areas of the project are meeting your expectations. If a visit is not practical, we can update you by e-mailing digital photos.
Our payment terms are fifty percent at the time the contract is signed, forty percent prior to the application of finish, and ten percent upon completion. Final payment is due at delivery and installation.
All of our furniture is signed and dated. Specific inscriptions can be made at your request.
